With this project we were tasked to re-design real existing book covers of a set of books with meaning to us. I chose two books on two different Hawaiian practices Kapu Ku‘ialua or “bone breaking,” and La‘au Lapa‘au or “bone healing.” To me these practices are amazing because everything is done organically and with a deep spiritual reasoning behind everything. It was with the imagery of practitioners of the different practices I wished to display a sense of bonding people still have today with these Native Hawaiian techniques.
